A hand carved jade double Pikorua (Twist) designed and carved by artist Alex Sands. This one of a kind piece was handcrafted from NZ pounamu and measures approximately 2 inches long. It includes an adjustable plaited waxed braid cord for that perfect fit.
A single Twist shows the joining together of two people for eternity while the double and triple twists have a similar meaning but refer more to the joining of two peoples or cultures.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Alex is an amazing artist from the Waikato region who works in a huge variety of materials and in both highly traditional Maori styles and the more contemporary styles. He works with a small team of artists who specialize in intricate wearable art with very strong forms and amazing detail but are also a master sculptors often creating stunning mixed media pieces. Alex is very well known for his bone and jade carvings but as you will see in this gallery, his talents are much wider.
