Here is a beautiful handmade Pen made from Exhibition Grade Curly Hawaiian Koa Wood with purple acrylic and gold accents. Comes with protective felt pouch. This pen was made by local artist Ward Blackburn who takes great care and time creating these stunning pens. Ward has been handcrafting Koa pens for 15 years and is making these exclusively for Makana Hut.

Koa is a large tree, typically attaining a height of 49 to 82 feet and a spread of 20 - 39 feet. In deep volcanic ash, a koa tree can reach a height of 98 feet, a circumference of 20 feet, and a spread of 125 feet. It is one of the fastest-growing Hawaiian trees, capable of reaching 20 - 30 feet in five years on a good site.

Recently, the State of Hawaii has issued restrictions on the harvesting of these trees as reforestation projects continue to be implemented. Though limited in its abundance, koa is even more desirable in Hawaii for upscale furniture, woodwork, ukulele, ceremonial bowls and more. Today, more than ever, Koa continues to be a widely recognized symbol of prestige and coloring.
